Pat Morrow creates furniture that is art
by Charla Stilling

“I believe when you walk into a person’s home, you gain an impression of who they are,” says Pat Morrow, designer and craftsman of original fine furnishings. “When we work together, they aren’t just buying a piece of furniture but the experience of creative expression within their own home.”
After earning a Fine Arts degree from the University of Kansas and studying furniture making in the Fine Woodworking Department at Red Rocks Community College, Pat left the corporate world and big city to design and build sophisticated studio furniture in her one-woman studio fittingly called Trail Mix Studio. Her creative process incorporates a wide variety of woodworking techniques including carving and classic joinery. Her artful combination of proportion and line, wood and color, shapes her and her clients’ collaborative vision into an original piece of furniture. From one-of-a-kind end-tables to hand-carved mythical Celtic creatures on mahogany drawer-fronts, Pat is dedicated to creating furnishings as unique as her clients.
“We wanted something that accentuated the Asian décor in our home,” says Ben and Darla Schwartz of Evergreen. After meeting Pat at the Evergreen Newcomers Club, Ben and Darla worked with her to design a matchless wine cellar door for their home. “It is beautiful!” Darla says as she stands back and admires the exquisite craftsmanship that speaks volumes about Pat Morrow and her ability to design a piece of art that exceeds her clients’ dreams. The wine cellar door is made from an attractive combination of alder, walnut, painted metal and willow. It is one of many unrivaled pieces Pat Morrow has created for her clients.
Pat has “revealed” her work in a number of local exhibits including ‘Open Door Studio’, “Women and Wood’, and the ‘Evergreen Invitational Art Show’. In 2006, she took part in the Milwaukee Fine Furnishings Show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Milwaukee Fine Furnishings Show is one of the country’s largest concentrations of furniture artists and designers. Pat is excited to be attending the show again in the fall of 2007.
Pat Morrow’s hand-crafted furniture has been displayed in Up Slope, a weekly Evergreen magazine, the “Home” section of the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune and Savvy City, a Milwaukee magazine. You can also find her work on websites such as furnituresociety.org, finefurnishingsshows.com, custommade.com and woodartistsgallery.com, where her “elk bench” is on the main page.
