Case Goods “Gingko Bookcase” Pat Morrow

A client of Colorado furniture maker Pat Morrow wanted to surprise his wife with a bookcase on their 25th anniversary. She loved gingko leaves as well as reading, and the client sent Morrow photos of both their living room and other bookcases he liked to get the design process rolling.

“My challenge was designing something that fit with his image but was my original idea,” Morrow says. “I sent him several different sketches, we narrowed it down to three, and then I coaxed him into choosing this one.”

Morrow says the client kept all the emails the two traded during the design process, printed them out, and gave them to his wife. A brass plate inside the bookcase reads “Grow old with me, the best is yet to come.”

Morrow has been making furniture for six years and works in a two-car garage heated by a pellet stove. “The one thing I do is work everything out on paper before I start cutting pieces,” she says. “It helps me see where issues may be or change something for the better.”
